Almond Cream Cheese Squares
Just as cinnamon and sugar are meant to go together. So are almond flavoring and cream cheese in my humble opinion. Now combine all of those ingredients and you have one great dessert. This is another quick and easy dessert made with Rhodes Dinner Rolls. Be warned...it smells so good warm, you won't want to wait until it's cooled to eat it.
Start with 6 Rhodes dinner rolls thawed from the freezer. Combined 3 rolls and roll into a 9x9 inch square.
Place dough square into a 9x9 inch square pan that has been buttered or sprayed with cooking spray. Bake the crust at 350 degrees for 10 minutes. Remove from oven and allow to cool. While the crust is baking, roll 3 additional Rhodes Dinner Rolls into another 9x9 inch square. Cover with sprayed plastic wrap and let rest until ready to use.
Next combine 8 ounces softened cream cheese, 3/4 cup sugar and 1/2 tsp almond extract. Mix well, until smooth.
Spread cream cheese mixture over cooled crust. Remove plastic wrap from second dough square. Place dough over the cream cheese mixture.
Drizzle 2 Tablespoons melted butter over the top crust.
Then sprinkle with a mixture of 1/4 cup sugar and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon. If you want sliced almonds on top, now is the time to add them. Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes.
Let Almond Cream Cheese Squares cool in the pan. Cut into squares to serve.
*I have found that you can add 2 more Rhodes Dinner Rolls to each crust and roll it a 9x13 inch rectangle. Use the same amounts for the cream cheese mixture, butter drizzled on top and cinnamon and sugar mixture. This stretches it into a 9x13 inch pan really well. More to go around.
